Postgraduates

The number of postgraduate students in the UK has grown dramatically, from a few thousand in the early 1960s to roughly 500,000 today. Over 30% of these are international. We recognise that many postgraduates are isolated from the undergraduate community; and that in addition international postgraduates can struggle to integrate into any local community.

With the support of local churches, academic groups, UCCF and existing postgraduate groups, Friends International has begun a project to reach out in friendship to international postgraduate students. It will help to organise activities and conferences for postgraduates; and encourage and equip Christian postgraduates to reach out in friendship to their international peers.

The work is co-ordinated by Nigerian-born Remi Tobler. Remi studied as an international student in Cambridge. She has spent the last 13 years working in Canada among students, five of them specifically with post-graduate students. She now lives in Cambridge with her husband who is involved in postdoctoral research at the University.
